Belief talents

The two doctrines every class owns, how belief points are earned, tier gates, books, what a rank does and how to reset.

Updated

Talents are the game's belief trees. Every class owns two doctrines and can learn from both: Warrior has Guardian and War God, Mage has Fal and Arcane, Priest has Grace and Judgement, Ranger has Hunt and Wind. Open the Skills window in game to see your doctrines and learn ranks.

Earn belief points

You gain one belief point at every odd level from 21 to 79 (21, 23, 25 ... 79): thirty in all. Three quests add one more each: your class's Ritual of Faith, Death History Log and The Last Rebellion. A fully grown character has 33 belief points; levels above 79 add no more.

Spend them carefully

Every rank costs one point, and ranks are learned one at a time, in order. Both doctrines draw on the same 33 points, and a single doctrine holds far more ranks than that: no character can finish even one tree. Decide which nodes matter for your role before you start.

Tier gates and prerequisites

Nodes sit in tiers. A deeper tier opens only after you have spent a set number of points in that same doctrine, shown on each node's card as "Belief points spent in ...". Points in your other doctrine never count towards it. Some ranks also need a set rank of an earlier node; the node's card lists them under "Requires".

Books

Many nodes need a belief book (a Tome, Codex, Scripture, Grimoire or Gospel named after the node) for their first rank. The book is used up only when the learn succeeds. Later ranks of the same node need points only. Each class's skill-book merchant sells most of its belief books; others are traded at the Faith Book Exchange Shop of Imperial Guard Commander Gunther in Kharugna.

What a rank does

  • Teaches or upgrades a skill. More than half of all ranks teach a new active or passive skill, or raise one to a stronger version.
  • Raises your stats, by a percentage or a flat amount, like the lines on your gear.
  • Improves a skill you already have, adding power or a chance of an extra effect on the target.
  • A few ranks work only while your health is above, or below, a set share.

A rank replaces the rank before it: rank 3 of a node shows the whole effect you have at rank 3.

Resetting

Divine Baptism of Diffusion, sold in the Tamer Store, returns every belief point from both doctrines at once; there is no partial undo. Books already used are not returned, so relearning a node's first rank needs its book again. It is not used up when nothing has been learned.

Plan by role

War God develops a Warrior's offence while Guardian gives defensive and support options. Fal develops a Mage's fire, Arcane its ice and defensive tools. Grace supports a Priest's healing and protection, Judgement its shadow control. A Ranger's Hunt and Wind offer different physical, elemental and control paths.
